Im not sure why copiers and printers are not natively in IT responsibility to begin with - we are the best suited for the job. The service provider should size the printer properly, however, we have had some big ones see way more printing than expected and have to live their lease out elsewhere troubling other less important users. You need to know what you require for a service level for your users and machine replacement under lease needs to be an option. IMO extreme page count = trouble and you simply can't have your users down 1 day a week every week. One final thought: keep a line in the contract to allow you to demand a troublesome or high page printer be replaced before the lease runs out on it. Never mind the 'starter cartridge set' fraud going on the is deserving of a price fixing investigation on all printer brands.ġ) IT doesn't fix the throwaway printers anymore: Ricoh fixes their leased equipment.Ģ) Toner never runs out as replacement automatically arrives before the machine runs out.ģ) We save SIX figures per year in printing costs by eliminating inkjets, having Ricoh fix them, and having Ricoh supply consumables as part of the above listed costs. For those that had a business case for a single desktop printer we got a larger laser printer covered under the lease/maintenance. So use them till you run out of ink or they break.
